Amazon has decided to shut down camera website DPReview. The website will go offline on April 10.
The DPReview editorial team writes that the ‘end of an era’ is in sight. After almost 25 years, the decision has been made to take the website off the air. DPReview’s General Manager Scott Everett says the decision is part of Amazon’s budget cuts. For those savings, Amazon laid off 18,000 employees. Amazon did not immediately mention in its announcement that the site would also be affected, and only mentioned that most of the layoffs would be in the Amazon Stores and People, Experience and Technology departments.
No new content
It has not been announced when the website will go offline for good. Everett does say that the editorial team will not post any new content after April 10. Readers can also no longer comment on articles on the site afterwards. Users can request their own content from Amazon after that time via the data request webpage.
April 10 also marks the end of DPReview’s YouTube channel. It has not been announced whether the videos will remain on this channel or whether they will disappear. The duo who have been producing videos for the channel for the past five years, Chris Niccolls and Jordan Drake, advise followers to keep an eye on their social media.
Everett closes the post with a word of thanks for the community’s support. In addition to news and reviews, DPReviews was best known for its camera enthusiast community. Among other things, participants could share photo samples from specific cameras.
