The problems encountered in the beta will help Diablo IV launch better in June.
The first of two beta phases for the action role-playing game Diablo IV took place last weekend.
The first hell of a ride didn’t go that smoothly, because there were server problems, lags and errors.
While the beta was still running, Blizzard Entertainment could deploy several hotfixes, according to Rod Fergusson.
The general manager of the latest installment in the series told NME that the beta issues and fixes that are now emerging will help give the game a better launch in June.
“The word beta has kind of gotten misunderstood these days as people are starting to refer to things as beta that [eigentlich] are a marketing beta, and it’s just another term for a demo. That is not the case with us at all. In the beta phase we test our technology – especially on the server side. We had a somewhat bumpy start on Friday.”
“We released six hotfixes over the weekend. We’ve solved dozens of issues and all of that work will pay off next weekend and then pave the way for launch. Sometimes it can be a little frustrating for the players, but they have to realize that they are helping us to improve the actual launch of the game.”
If you missed the first beta, you can join the second this weekend. A pre-order of Diablo IV is not required this time.
