“Battlefield 1943” and “Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2” are leaving the digital stores. The online modes will also all be discontinued.

Update: Electronic Arts has since revised the blog entry and removed “Mirror’s Edge” from the list, leaving only the “Battlefield” games.

Update 2: Meanwhile, Electronic Arts took to Twitter, emphasizing that mentioning “Mirror’s Edge” was a mistake:

An update about Battlefield 1943, Bad Company and Bad Company 2 👇https://t.co/mqYW5VVi2i

An earlier version of this announcement included Mirror’s Edge. That was an error. We currently have no plans to remove Mirror’s Edge from digital storefronts.

Message from March 21, 2023: Electronic Arts has announced the discontinuation of several older games, meaning support will end altogether and the games will be withdrawn from digital sales.

As of April 28, 2023, Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2 and Mirror’s Edge will no longer be available on PlayStation Store and other digital game providers, the publisher announced in a blog post today.

The online services will also be discontinued

The removal is in preparation for the shutdown of online services for the games mentioned, which will take place on December 8, 2023. Players can still launch Bad Company 1 & 2 and Mirror’s Edge and use their respective offline features.

Since “Battlefield 1943” is a multiplayer shooter, the game will no longer be playable after the specified date. At the time, the shooter was the third installment in the “Battlefield” series for consoles and put players in World War II, where they fought on the side of either the Japanese or the Americans in the Pacific.

“While these titles hold a special place in our hearts, we look forward to creating new memories with you as we keep our focus on our current and future Battlefield experiences,” said Electronic Arts in the mentioned blog post.

He continued: “If you have fond memories from playing Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2, Battlefield 1943, and Mirrors Edge like we do, please share them with us. We would love to hear from you.”

More news about Electronic Arts:

It remains to be seen how the brands will continue. The “Bad Company” series in particular still has many fans who could certainly be enthusiastic about a new part.
