Microsoft has announced that from April 2023, optional non-security updates to Windows 11 and Windows 10 (“Type C” patches) will be released on the fourth Tuesday of the month.
In recent years, Microsoft has continued to actively develop and update its Windows 11 and Windows 10 operating systems. One of the important aspects of the update is optional non-security updates. They include various improvements, bug fixes and new features. Starting in April, these updates will be released on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
Update release schedule change
Previously, optional updates, known as “type C” patches, could be released at different times, which created some discomfort for users and administrators. But now Microsoft has decided to standardize the process and set a specific date for the release of such updates. As a result, starting in April, they will be released on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Whereas mandatory security updates are released on “Patch Tuesday”, every second Tuesday of the month.
Benefits of the new schedule
The new release schedule for optional updates has several benefits. First, it makes it easier for users and IT administrators to know in advance when to expect new updates. Second, it allows Windows developers to work more efficiently on fixes and improvements on a tight schedule.
How to access optional updates
To access optional updates for Windows, users must navigate to the operating system’s Settings, then select Windows Update for Windows 11 or Update & Security for Windows 10. When manually checking using the Check for availability button updates, a list of optional updates will be available that you can install as desired.
