Despite the successor model, the Samsung Galaxy S22 is still worth recommending – but not without restrictions: In the CHIP test center, the smallest model in the Galaxy series is an excellent upper-class mobile phone with an elegant design. In a direct comparison with the competition, even from the company itself, the smartphone is still not the big hit.
But first the positives: The very good display (bright 6.1-inch) and the top performance are among the strengths of the Samsung Galaxy S22. It contains the in-house processor Samsung Exynos 2200 with 8 CPU cores and a clock frequency of 2,800 MHz. In the graphics test, the Galaxy S22 manages 60 frames per second in QHD resolution and almost 100 fps in the native display resolution. It is therefore very suitable for mobile gaming. The smartphone also has 8 GB of RAM on board.
The battery of the Samsung Galaxy S22 was less popular in the test. Although this is solid with a capacity of 3,700 mAh, it is smaller than the Plus and Ultra versions – this leads to a shorter runtime: The runtime measured in the test is 10:27 hours.
A real disappointment and reason for a placement behind some predecessors, i.e. the Galaxy S 21 series, is the camera: Compared to the previous generation, it has deteriorated. But if you are satisfied with “good” pictures and do not place the highest value on the camera, you will get an excellently processed and overall very good smartphone with the Galaxy S22.
With the predecessor you are still a bit better and cheaper overall.
