In the summer of 2021, García y García was released, a comedy that had a modest result at the box office and quite merciless reviews, so it has been quite surprising to find a sequel on the billboard. 90 minutes in which a good part of the initial cast is recovered, led by Pepe Viyuela y Jose Mota as well as secondaries like Antonio Resines o Ricardo Castilla.
Garcia and Garcia 2 comes with the main title of The mess hotel and leaves behind the initial premise of mistaken identities to launch a new humorous starting point, which this time is more choral and seeks to get closer to the spirit of films like Home Alone or the recent Silent Night… although looking for the family audience and away from excessive violence.

Javier García and the other Javier García meet by chance at an auction in which one is among the public and the other among the maintenance personnel. By accident they end up bidding for a dilapidated hotel in a lost town that they decide to restore to open it up to the public again.
However, they are going to run into a lot of problems. The first of them, his few skills for manual labor but also with a family of thieves who have hidden a treasure between the walls of their recently acquired real estate and some colorful tenants: a sleepwalking client, a posh couple and some child prodigies. with a revolutionary invention.
Thus, they will not only have to pay the debts of the works but also deal with the alteration of magnetism, a camouflaged treasure and the fear of paranormal phenomena in a hotel that, according to what they are told, is haunted.
Bland White Family Sitcom
There are many ideas in The mess hotel and almost all of them are wasted except for that talent that seems innate in Viyuela to get entangled with almost anything (here with a work in between, he has plenty of work material).
The problem, as in the first installment, is the internal tempo of the story, whose sketches are simple when they don’t embarrass others. The children’s casting is not overflowing with spontaneity, it remains in the same vein as family sagas such as Father There Is Only One or A todo tren, whose trail the film intends to follow because of what works at the box office.
What is most polished is, as always, Viyuela’s humorous gift as a physical actor, especially when he believes he finds a paranormal presence in the hotel and he does not stop screaming like a madman, and an unusual dose of special effects in a modest Spanish production. especially in one of the final sequences.

Then we find contradictory messages: there is a commitment to make deaf people visible, with an additional effort on the part of peace padilla for speaking at the same time with words and in sign language, but at the same time he makes fun of a character who does not see well, such as Rompetechos.
Nor is it that the behavior of adults is exemplary, so as a recommendation for the little ones at home, it is watery at various points, even though the adventure itself has its grace at specific moments.
In short, it is a proposal that is far from perfect, neither as a sitcom nor as a sequel to Garcia and Garcia. It is not necessary to have seen it to go to the cinema to see this one because the differences between two main characters, antagonistic although forced to understand each other by circumstances, are not even exploited.
You leave the cinema the same way you entered, let’s go. Good product placement for the comic “Sargento Resines”, we didn’t see that coming.
