It’s no exaggeration to say that was my most anticipated game in the genre in 2022. The first game is my all-time favorite, while the second offers a scaling up and numerous improvements. However,
Last December, beat ’em up River City Girls 2 was released. Players immediately noticed that the frame rate was lower than the first part. While River City Girls runs at a steady 60fps across all platforms, the sequel is capped at 30.
At launch, WayForward quickly released a beta patch on Steam that fixed single-player frame rates, but this beta does not fix online multiplayer issues. Since then, the developer has largely remained silent on the status of the promised fixes for consoles and PC. Discord WayForward reported that the difficulty of fixing the frame rate comes from the fact that in River City Girls 2 it is tied to other in-game systems and mechanics, hence the long wait for a fix.
Thankfully, WayForward recently broke the news:
We’ve been hard at work on the River City Girls 2 performance patch across all platforms, and we’re almost done testing and getting ready to submit it for approval. We will let you know as soon as we have an exact date. Thank you for your patience!
The announcement does not say when the update will be released, but it does say that it will be rolled out to console makers soon. Once it’s approved, we can expect another announcement with an exact release date. After that, finally, River City Girls 2 should run as smoothly as the first game.
