John Wick 4 hit the cinemas on March 23, 2023 – even before that, the trade press had given the action film, starring Keanu Reeves, some very high ratings. These opinions are confirmed by cinema-goers: As the portal Variety reports, John Wick 4 was able to shine in the USA alone with a starting result of 73.5 million US dollars. However, the box office worldwide ended up at a whopping 137.5 million US dollars, so that the fourth John Wick part has already recouped the production costs in the hundreds of millions.
At the same time, the release weekend also means a new record for John Wick: None of the three previous parts even come close to the starting sales of John Wick 4 – John Wick 3 comes closest, which was released in cinemas in 2019 -Weekend “only” raked in $56.8 million. With regard to the running time of the action film, John Wick 4 sets a franchise record with a running time of almost 169 minutes.
The German release of John Wick 4 went off in a similarly positive manner: In this country, the strip was able to put on the strongest release of the year so far with box office earnings of 4.8 million euros, as reported by Blickpunkt:Film magazine. Including preview tickets that were sold before John Wick 4 hit theaters, it is said to have attracted almost 465,000 visitors to the cinemas. In addition, the action strip has the tenth best German start of an FSK 18 film of all time.
