Although Diablo IV’s open beta isn’t over yet, fans of the game are already scrambling to uncover the identity of a character from the first act. But the most likely today point to an enemy more than an ally.
Diablo 4: a beta that does not lack mysteries
Since Friday evening, fans of the Diablo license must be in heaven since Diablo 4 has opened the doors of Sanctuary with a beta open to everyone. Something to appreciate the beginning of the adventure since this open beta phase allows you to do the first act of the campaign in full. A first chapter which does not lack twists and which enjoy a much more elaborate staging than that of the previous opuses. Some make the discovery of the demoness Lilith and the angel Inarius, couple at the origin of the creation of Sanctuary and the appearance of humanity. However, these are not the only characters who challenge.
One of them is the Bloodied Wolf (literal translation of Bloodied Wolf), which we see several times. He is the one who (later) pretends to save the player during the intro cutscene : while the protagonist is on the edge of frost in a cave, we briefly see the head of the canine. A few hours later, we meet the strange animal again during our hunt for Lilith: it is then very talkative. That’s when he feels he stands to gain by helping you.
Diablo, Mephisto… fan theories
Words which however remain mysterious and do not fail to arouse the curiosity of the players. At the time these lines are written, there are already several theories concerning this wolf even though the open beta is not over. The one that emerges most often, probably due to its probable character, evokes that this wolf would be Mephisto: the rune that can be seen on the face of the animal closely resembles the one that appears in the book Diablo – The book of Adria. A potential theory therefore, especially since Mephisto is the father of Lilith… But hey, some believe that Diablo would not be Diablo without… Diablo. It is therefore the Bloodied Wolf who would have taken his features according to this reddit user:
Personally I think it’s Diablo in disguise, when we talk to him and ask him why he’s helping us, he says he prefers a sanctuary without Lilith and that his little rebellion annoys him. The fact that he laughs right after saying “the horadrim imprison Diablo, then build a city right next to it” is also a weird point.
To understand this theory, you have to go back several years in the Diablo universe. Angels and demons constantly fight to take control of the world-stone. As mentioned above, some members of both sides are fed up with this war, Lilith and Inarius in the lead. However, the primordial demons (of which Diablo is a part) have always advocated war against the angels. It is therefore not abnormal to observe disagreements and tensions between Lilith and Diablo.
We also observe less likely, with those hoping for the return of Deckard Cain or Zoltun Kulle. In any case, Blizzard did well with the introduction of this Bloodied Wolf. The character makes it possible to mobilize the Diablo community while being interested in the personalities that the latter would like to see again. Who is this wolf? Response around June 06, with the release of Diablo 4 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox and Xbox Series.
