Bad news for fans of the older Nintendo consoles Wii U and 3DS: Today is the last day on which purchases can still be made in the systems’ eShops. The stores are now closed.
It’s the end of an era for many Nintendo Wii U and 3DS owners. As Nintendo announced last year, the eShop of the two consoles will now be closed. Today is the last day that players can still make digital purchases for the two systems. Many titles will thus disappear forever.
Final hours of the 3DS and Wii U eShops have arrived
Nintendo had already announced in February 2022 that Wanting to shut down the 3DS and Wii U eShops. The end date for the stores has been set for March 27, 2023, although some games and services were unavailable earlier. Players can only purchase digital titles in the respective shops until today. Goods that have already been purchased should still be able to be downloaded.
It is not known when exactly the shops in this country will be shut down. However, the American stores will be shut down at 5 pm Pacific Time, which would be 2 am on March 28 in Germany. If you still have credit in the 3DS and Wii U eShops, you should link your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account and combine the existing credit. This means that the credit can also be used on the Nintendo Switch or the Nintendo website. The balance can still be combined until March 2024.

If you still need a few final titles from the 3DS and Wii U stores, you should hurry with your purchases. However, one should not hope for too many bargains. Especially with Nintendo’s own titles, the full price has to be paid in the last few hours. On the 3DS, however, there is a small sale on a few Atlus titles, among other things. For example, “Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers” is reduced, to which the developer and publisher last year announced a successor.
