The Chinese division of Tesla is launching two new sticker kits for owners of Model 3 and Model Y. They are billed between 62 and 100 euros but are not currently available in France.
A few years ago, personalization was fashionable, sometimes pushed to the extreme. We remember in particular the DS 3 and other Mini Coopers, which were available in many colors and which offered various options and other stickers, so that no car looked like another. Today, the trend is rather towards rationalization, especially since the beginning of the shortage of semiconductors, which prompted manufacturers to simplify their ranges. This allows them to reduce production times but also to save money.
Amazing tuning
Some high-end manufacturers continue to offer a wide range of customization options, but this is becoming increasingly rare. While among generalist brands, it’s been over for a long time, while city cars are becoming more serious, like the DS 3 E-Tense, which we recently took the wheel of, or the electric Fiat 500.
However, some manufacturers want to offer customization options again. This is the case of a brand that we did not really expect, since we are talking about Tesla here. Elon Musk’s firm is indeed rather known for offering a very reduced catalog with only five body colors.
Only two wheel styles are also available for the Model S, including an aero-optimized version, which offers a range of up to 723 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. But now the American manufacturer wants to offer an unexpected touch of madness to its cars, as relayed by the Chinese site It Home.
The firm, which seems to want to activate all the levers to seduce customers so as not to have a difficult year, is indeed embarking on tuning. And for good reason, it now offers two amazing sticker kits for its two best-selling cars, the Model 3 and Model Y.
Only in China
The first kit features the model name in a circle and various inscriptions such as wheel size and performance data. All stylized to recall competition cars. The second is a little different and above all more fun, since it consists of black, red or white triangles depending on the color of the vehicle.
We must then count between 468 and 768 yuan, which is equivalent to around 62 and 103 euros to afford one of these stickers. An astonishing strategy on the part of the manufacturer, which is undoubtedly seeking to attract new, younger customers in China. Because we know that its situation there has been worrying in recent months, with many stocks of Model 3 and Model Y which had difficulty in being sold.
For now, these sticker kits are only available in the Middle Kingdom and in certain cities only, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou or even Shenzhen and Chengdu. In total, 19 municipalities are concerned, but it is possible that others will complete this list a little later. Customers who wish to buy these decals will have to go to the workshop, for an installation that lasts around thirty minutes.
This initiative is reminiscent of that of Peugeot in Slovakia, which offers various customization kits for its e-208 via its Peugeot Individual program. Again, this is not currently available in France. For memory, several offers are proposedranging from a few stickers to a full wrap depending on your desires.
