On May 19, the Fast and Furious saga will have its grand finale. But for Vin Diesel, star of the show, this historic moment cannot be done without a new farewell to one of the great figures of the saga.
Paul Walker, back in Fast and Furious 10?
If today, when we talk about the Fast and Furious franchise, we think above all of Vin Diesel and big cars, in the past, the actor who plays Dominic Toretto on the screen, shared the poster with a another famous star: we are obviously referring to Paul Walker. The celebrity, unfortunately deceased, was also at the center of the plot of the very first Fast and Furious, but also of its sequel 2 Fast 2 Furious, which moreover, does without Vin Diesel. He also plays the second role in Fast and Furious 4, Fast and Furious 5, Fast and Furious 6 and of course Fast and Furious 7, an opus released after the death of the actor.
If with this seventh chapter, Paul Walker had the right to a final worthy of his character Brian O’Conner and to a real tribute, especially in music with the song See You Again performed by rapper Wiz Khalifa and singer Charlie Puth, he could still come back in Fast X.
Vin Diesel prepares a beautiful tribute
For Louis Leterrier, the director of the film, Fast X marks the beginning of the end of the saga, but it is by no means the conclusion. What you have to understand by this is that this Fast and Furious 10 marks a major turning point in the history of the franchise. We can therefore expect to see several iconic characters say their farewells, and part of the intrigues will end definitively.
That’s the beauty of getting to the end of this franchise: I don’t have to tell myself “these characters are going to live forever.” (…) Only in westerns do cowboys gallop towards sunset. Here it is really different. It gave me the freedom to raise the stakes even higher than they have been before. Louis Leterrier in an interview with Total Film
We can therefore imagine several iconic characters passing the weapon on the left, starting with Dominic Toretto who has represented the saga for more than 20 years now. We also think that it is for this reason that the actor Vin Diesel intends to make a last tribute to the character Paul Walker.
In 2013, with the whole world grappling with his loss, the studio made a very bold and righteous decision in keeping Brian O’Conner alive. I’ll tell you this without spoiling anything: I couldn’t imagine this saga ending without really saying goodbye to Brian O’Conner. Vin Diesel in a Total Film interview
You understand, it could be that Fast and Furious 10 marks the very last meeting of the entirety of the characters of the saga. The hero Brian O’Conner could therefore return to the screen for a few minutes. Much like Fast and Furious 7, it’s possible that this Fast and Furious 10 will call on Paul Walker’s brother to reprise the role of Brian O’Conner. Obviously, using technology, the face of Paul Walker will replace that of his brother for more credibility.
I spent a lot of time listening, understanding what real fans wanted and felt, and also getting a feel for how a saga should end, with dignity and integrity. All of this has led us to this point. Vin Diesel
As a reminder, Fast and Furious will land in our dark rooms on May 19. In this episode, which will mark a turning point for the saga, Dominic Toretto and his friends will once again have to face Dante, one of the great villains of the franchise.
