03/28/2023 at 6:49 p.m. by Thilo Bayer – In the current spring sale, GoG is bringing out another free game. What is Alwa’s Awakening about?
PCGH has already reported on the spring sale at GoG. Until April 3rd there are more than 4,500 games discounted – as an incentive there is another free game.
What is Alwa’s Awakening about?
For the next 40 hours or so, the GoG website offers an adventure game from developer Elden Pixels, which was originally released in February 2017. According to the description, Alwa’s Awakening is a game that tries to stay as close as possible to the authentic 8-bit look with cute pixel graphics, a catchy chiptune soundtrack (over 25 new original tracks) and NES charm.
In Alwa’s Awakening you play the role of Zoe, a heroine sent from another world to bring peace to the land of Alwa. Equipped only with a magic wand, she wakes up in a distant land and has to set out to help the people. Like the old classics, there’s no flashing arrow telling you where to go and what to do next. Instead, you’re free to find your own path and use your magic staff to navigate through the game’s 400+ unique, challenging rooms.
The game is easy to learn but difficult to master, just like the games of the “good old” days. You explore a large, connected map in “Metroidvania” style. In the course of the adventure you will find a whole range of different items that give the main character Zoe new abilities and unlock new areas. On Steam, the game gets an approval rating of at least 80 percent, on GoG it’s 4.2 out of 5 stars.
Otherwise, the spring sale continues at GoG. Up to and including Monday, a few thousand games are significantly reduced. For example, there is Disco Elysium: The Final Cut or the Royal Edition of Kingdom Come Deliverance for around 10 euros. Of course, CD Project also sells their own games again – Cyberpunk 2077 is available for 29.99 euros and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings for 2.99 euros. XCOM 2, We are The Dwarves, Alien Breed or Blackguards also have very high discounts, i.e. over 90 percent.
