The first (indexed)Medal of Honor was still under the direction of doyen Steven Spielberg, and the next two successors were also made by Dreamworks Interactive: In 2000, Electronic Arts took over the development studio and quickly converted it to EA Los Angeles. Since then, the specialists for the Second World War have been programming one episode after the other, hopefully they won’t run out of breath.
European Assault takes place in 1942 and tells the story of the Office of Strategic Services, a predecessor organization of the CIA: none other than founding father General Major William ‘Wild Bill’ Donovan personally chooses you to stir up trouble behind German lines in Europe and North Africa. Your mission objectives require pretty much every outrage that has made secret services notorious and famous: You blow up submarine ports, power plants and fuel depots with time bombs, and various leaders have to be eliminated – don’t let them escape! However, sneaking is not possible, because in 1942 bullets are flying around your ears in all corners of Europe. There are a few surprises waiting in the course of the story: tank formations will roll over your positions and encircled comrades will call for help by radio. With around half a dozen missions per area of operation, you distinguish between optional and mandatory tasks: If you have reserves left, you can regularly make a detour and collect awards.
