Last year, the fighting game MultiVersus was released in the status of open testing. The game managed to attract 20 million players in just a month in early access, after which the developers began to release new content for it as part of seasonal updates, while the project itself continued to remain in the test version. Recently, the popularity of the game has declined markedly.
Today, the developers of MultiVersus announced that they will soon be shutting down the game in order to restart it in 2024. According to the statement of the authors of the project, the game will be removed from digital stores on April 4, including from the Microsoft Store on Xbox. All network functions in the game will be turned off on June 25, while the project will still be playable if it is installed on the console.
The developers explained the decision to close MultiVersus for the time being as follows:
We know that there is still a lot of work to be done. As a result, we have a clearer idea of where we need to focus on, in particular the pace of releasing new characters, maps, and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game, along with updated network code and other matchmaking improvements. We will also be reworking the progression system based on your feedback and looking for new ways for you to connect with your friends in the game.
The authors of MultiVersus expect to release the game in early 2024.
