Ukrainian boxer team Alexander Usyk (20–0, 13 KOs) began negotiations with a contender for his WBA belt.
British Daniel Dubois (19-1, 18 KOs) recovered from injury, insider journalist Michael Benson said, citing Frank Warren, the boxer’s promoter.
Daniel Dubois, 25, who holds the WBA World title, recently recovered from an injury. His team sent a medical confirmation at the request of the WBA to prove that the boxer is ready to fight as a mandatory contender for Usyk’s belts.
The Briton has 19 victories in the pro ring. The only defeat in his career Dubois suffered in November 2020 by a knockout from compatriot Joe Joyce.
36-year-old Usyk twice defeated British Anthony Joshua and is the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight champion. His potential fight against Tyson Fury for the title of undisputed world champion recently fell through the fault of the Briton, the owner of the WBC belt.
Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois negotiations are now underway, I’m told by Frank Warren. They sent back medical confirmation as requested by the WBA to prove Dubois has recovered from his injury and is fit to be next mandatory for Usyk’s WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight world titles.
