In a recent announcement, Electronic Arts announced extensive internal restructuring affecting six percent of all positions. Converted, this corresponds to the jobs of over 750 people.
Several companies in the technology sector have made layoffs in recent months. Among them the Redmond software giant Microsoft, which in January of this year more than 10,000 jobs eliminated. The workforce in the Xbox division was also reduced as part of the measures.
According to a recent announcement by Electronic Arts, the “FIFA” and “Battlefield” makers also decided to restructure internally, which affects six percent of internal positions. Expressed in absolute numbers, this is about the jobs of more than 750 people who are being restructured or eliminated.
Electronic Arts further stated that the company hopes to be able to place as many affected employees in other positions as possible.
The challenges of the future in focus
If this does not succeed, those affected are guaranteed at least a severance payment and benefits such as health care and career transition services. According to Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts, the company should be more effectively positioned with the restructuring and prepared for the challenges of the future.
“As we further focus our portfolio, we are moving away from projects that do not contribute to our strategy, reviewing our real estate footprint and restructuring some of our teams. These decisions are expected to affect approximately six percent of our company’s workforce,” said Wilson.
“This is the most difficult part and we work through the process with the utmost care and respect. Where we can, we offer our colleagues opportunities to move on to other projects. Where this is not possible, we offer severance payments and additional benefits such as health care and career transition benefits.”
“Communication of these decisions began earlier this quarter and we expect to continue into early next fiscal year,” Wilson continued.

According to Wilson, the restructuring should enable Electronic Arts to continue to provide players with high-quality video game experiences in the future and to write the next chapter of the US publisher.
