E3 2023 was officially canceled this week. We’ll tell you why there is no need to fear boredom in June despite everything. On the contrary: Just like in previous years, we can expect numerous presentations and announcements.
After the rumors of the past few days, the definitive cancellation Unfortunately, the E3 2023 is anything but surprising. Even if one or the other is likely to mourn the loss of what used to be the most important trade fair for video games, there really is no question of boredom in June.
On the one hand, the Summer Game Fest, which is known from previous years and moderated by Geoff Keighley, fills the gap. It was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic and offered developers and publishers the opportunity to present projects and announce new titles.
As confirmed by Keighley in December, Summer Game Fest will return this June, once again bringing us plenty of new announcements. “Traditionally, we’re going to have tons of exciting announcements from the developers that are driving the gaming industry forward. And we will once again be highlighting other digital events, demos and more publisher surprises to be announced in the coming months.” so Keighley.
It starts with the big opening event on June 8, 2023 at 9 p.m. our time.
What are PlayStation, Ubisoft and Xbox planning?
Also confirmed quite a while ago was this year’s Xbox Games Showcase, which will be accompanied by a direct show for the science fiction role-playing game “Starfield”, which will be released in September 2023 and will take place on June 11, 2023. It is currently still unclear which titles the various Xbox studios will present. At least “Hellblade 2: Senua’s Sacrifice”, which is currently in development at Ninja Theory, is considered set. New details about “Fable”, “Avowed” or “Everwild” are also expected. The same applies to various new announcements.
Ubisoft is once again putting on its own event this year. Like the publisher this week announced, the Ubisoft Forward format will return on June 12, 2023 at 7pm Central European Time. Ubisoft did not give any further details, but it is certain that we can look forward to the presentations of “Assassin’s Creed: Mirage”, “The Crew: Motorfest” and “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora”.
Traditionally, Ubisoft also uses the in-house events for at least one new announcement.

Those responsible for Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation did not want to comment on their plans for the gaming summer of 2023. However, a few weeks ago, Giant Bombs Jeff Grubb reported that a big PS5 games showcase is planned, which will take place before the planned start of the now canceled E3 2023 (June 13-16, 2023).
According to the well-connected insider, the event will “herald the next phase of the PS5 cycle” – including a spectacular announcement von Bluepoint Games. Grubb’s statements have not yet been confirmed.

Other publishers planning their own events are Digital Devolver and Tencent. There is currently a question mark behind other industry giants such as Electronic Arts, Nintendo or Activision Blizzard, who have so far left open whether they are also planning corresponding events or whether possible announcements will be made, for example, as part of the Summer Game Fest 2023.
After the expected hot June, local players will continue in August. We are of course talking about Gamescom 2023, which will take place from August 23 to 27, 2023 in Cologne.
And then there would be this year’s Tokyo Game Show, which will open its doors from September 21 to 24, 2023 and should have entertaining announcements in store, especially for friends of Japanese video game fare.
Production is ramping up on our biggest @SummerGameFest ever – the video game industry comes together this June, kicking off live from @youtubetheater on Thursday, June 8.
