Have you always wanted to have your own arcade machine at home but you can’t find the place to store it without annoying the rest of your family? An entrepreneur offers you a solution, and it’s impressive!
The arcade at home, a cumbersome project
Whether you were lucky enough to grow up in the 80s or not, you must have seen a few arcades before. True cradle of popular gaming a few decades ago, these emblematic places continue to sell dreams, even today. The proof is that we still find some of these rooms stuffed with arcade terminals in recent audio-visual productions with dazzling success such as Stranger Things, Wreck-It Ralph or the very recent HBO series The Last of Us. But since it is becoming increasingly rare to be able to move around in these temples of retrogaming, is it possible to bring them home? In theory, yes. In practice… a little less.

If you want to enjoy the most iconic games of the 80s, all in the original conditions, it is quite possible today if you gather a few specific parts. First, you need what’s called a slot MVSa component that was inside the famous arcade terminals and which made it possible to accommodate game cartridges like Metal Slug or Street Fighter. In addition to this famous slot and the appropriate cartridge, you will also need to obtain a “Supergun”, an accessory that allows you to connect everything to a compatible TV or screen. A beautiful mess that does not really make retrogaming accessible to those who would like to rediscover the sensations of arcade terminalsand that a young entrepreneur intends to correct with his own console.
The MCS-01, a real gem of retrogaming?
Making the arcade accessible in his living room is the crazy project of Remy, founder of the company Orthros. Thanks to its soberly named machine MCS-01 (for Multi Cart Supergun), he hopes to offer a kit console no bigger than the ones you already own and which could accommodate all your MVS type game cartridges as simply as possible. To reach the end of his project, he is obviously counting on the participation of many donors who can still show up for four days on the Kickstarter page dedicated to MCS-01. But then, how does this famous console work?

To simply summarize the case, the MCS-01 in fact plays the role of a box making it possible to easily group together the three accessories necessary for the start-up of an arcade machine. (as a reminder: the Supergun, the MVS slot and the game cartridge). By getting this machine, you will only have to open it simply with a screwdriver to insert your own MVS slot, and you will end up with a functional console that can accommodate all MVS type game cartridges as easily than on any console.

Of course, the box can be connected to any screen with an HDMI cable, and even has two DB15 ports to connect NeoGeo joypads or even more classic arcade sticks (Orthros also sells its own sticks for go with the console). As you can see from the different images on this article (and on the project’s Kickstarter page), everything looks particularly well done and makes you want to try it out to finally enjoy the best arcade games without moving from your living room, or breaking the bank by spending a coin on each game.
