Puzzles have become the most popular genre among gamers of all ages.
According to the results of a VK Play study, it was possible to find out what a portrait of a typical Russian gamer looks like in 2022. And also what gadgets and games are more preferred in the gaming community in Russia.
Thus, the majority of respondents (85%) play on mobile devices. Compared to last year, the share of mobile gaming increased by 4% – from 81% to 85%, especially among women – from 42% to 45%.
The most popular genre among gamers of all ages was puzzles (79%). Women love to play this genre more than men – 87% versus 72%. Also in high demand are virtual board games (70%), racing games (53%) and shooters (51%). Slightly less interesting are simulators (47%), action games (47%) and strategies (44%).
Over the past year, desktop games have remained at about the same level of popularity – 63% versus 66% in 2021, and the share of female gamers has grown from 34% to 40%.
The most relevant genres for PC are shooters (69%), racing (62%) and adventure (49%). And survival and horror games are becoming less popular (27%), especially for the 25-35 and 45-54 age groups.
Russian gamers began to play less on consoles – their share dropped to 17%. Console games are predominantly preferred by men than women – 65% versus 35% and gamers aged 25-34 (39%).
The top popular genres for the console are racing (69%), fighting games (64%) and shooters (62%). Over the past six months, a more age group of 25-34 years has begun to be more interested in virtual battles and shooting. Survival and horror games (29%), as well as collectible card games (28%) are less in demand among Russian console gamers.
