Perfect World Games and Black Wings Game Studio have launched a closed beta for Persona 5: The Phantom X, the new installment in the Persona 5 series, which takes place after the end of the adventures of the Joker and his companions. Atlus has yet to confirm the canonicity of this intriguing spin-off/sequel, but it’s a big-budget game, with character designs by the longtime Shigenori Soejima and new music from Lyn, already responsible for the soundtrack of Persona 5, Royal and Strikers. The beta version of the game is only available in China and will end on March 31, but the first gameplay videos are already available.
Persona 5: The Phantom X follows the exploits of a new group of phantom thieves brought together by the usual unnamed protagonist known as Wonder, this time with the goal of awakening the desires of Japanese citizens. He will be joined by the owl Luffy, as well as three other high school students: Yuki Fujikawa, Mont, and Seiji. Persona 5: The Phantom X will have a good technical component and will allow players to visit many new locations, including the Kokatsu Academy, where the protagonist studies.
Persona 5: The Phantom X will initially only be available on mobile (and possibly PC) and is currently only scheduled to launch in China and Japan. The game is completely free to play and will be supported by a lot of new content through the live service structure after launch. There is a microtransaction system centered around the gacha system.
