This is supposed to be a new record.
In March 2023, players in the Counter-Strike Global Offensive spent about $100 million on the purchase of cases with items, according to the CS GO Case Tracker. In total, about 39.5 million cases were opened.
According to Dexerto, this is a record: players have never opened so many cases and spent so much money on it. Compared to the previous month, activity increased markedly: in February, 27.7 million cases were opened.
From the cases, players extract various customization items that do not affect the gameplay – as a rule, we are talking about weapon skins. To open the case, you need to purchase a special key.
The growth in popularity of cases occurred against the backdrop of the announcement of Counter-Strike 2. In fact, this is an improved version of Counter-Strike Global Offensive, created on the Source 2 engine and differing from the base game in various improvements – for example, better graphics.
The release of Counter-Strike 2 is planned for the summer of 2023. The game will replace Counter-Strike Global Offensive, but all game items from CS:GO will move to Counter-Strike 2.
