On April Fool’s Day, ASUS ROG released an announcement of a new portable gaming machine: the Asus ROG Ally. It is perhaps a April Fool? We can’t say no with certainty, but the fact that after two days the announcement is still available and there is the possibility of registering on the Best Buy website to receive pre-order information suggests that it is all true.
But let’s see in detail what it is. The portable console would mount a custom AMD Ryzen APU. Asus also claims that it is the fastest AMD SOC to date. The screen offers FullHD and there should be a dual fan design.
Asus also claims that, when streaming to a TV, you can take full advantage of the Asus ROG Ally by connecting it to a ROG XG Mobile eGPU.
The trailer, which you see in the tweet above, shows real games like High on Life, Moving Out and WRC Generations – it’s strange that an April Fools’ Day showcases real titles. Also the video is really well done, even too much to be a joke. Last year, by the way, Asus’ April Fools was clearly a fake (of Smart Lenses with eye controls).
We just have to wait and see if we will soon have new details, such as price and release date, assuming it’s all true. In the meantime, here is a collection with some of the best April Fools’ Day 2023.
