Two weeks after the original release, Capcom has delivered the Mercenaries mode in Resident Evil 4 Remake – and suddenly introduced microtransactions. This annoys a number of players!
As part of the newly released Mercenaries DLC, Capcom has suddenly also introduced microtransactions in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Players now have the option of upgrading their weapons faster in Mercenaries mode for real-money purchases without having to complete side quests. And these paid upgrade tickets have certainly sparked debate and a lot of resentment among players.
The fact that Capcom has chosen this model is not entirely unexpected, given that the Mercenaries mode is being offered free of charge to all Resident Evil 4 Remake players. This should keep you longer by having to defend yourself against hordes of enemies that are getting stronger. Gamers are annoyed that you can now use eleven different microtransactions in the form of a corresponding number of weapon upgrade tickets. They sometimes describe the model as “dirty”.
Creepy seeing people lining up to defend this shit. Microtransactions are inherently scummy. Springing them on players post-launch is moreso.
There are no good microtransactions. https://t.co/kCWXeJ98NP

Stephanie Sterling is one of the prominent critics: “It’s scary to see people defending this shit. Microtransactions are inherently dirty. Unleashing this post-launch on players is even more so. There are no good microtransactions.”
While defenders of the model argue that the weapon upgrades aren’t a big deal and consequently not a big problem, others argue that the paid tickets can also give players unfair advantages in a round of Mercenaries mode for a better score. This makes it easier for players to climb the leaderboards.
To date, Capcom has not issued any statement on the whole issue. Ticket prices range from $2.99 to a full package for $56.
