In addition to the Mercenaries mode, microtransactions have found their way into the remake of “Resident Evil 4” with a recent update. It was certainly foreseeable that the headwind on social media would not be long in coming.
Shortly before the long Easter weekend, Capcom provided the successful remake of the 2005 horror classic “Resident Evil 4” with a comprehensive update.
On the one hand, this brought with it the free Mercenaries mode, to which we here summarized more details for you. In addition, support for microtransactions made its appearance without prior notice.
We’re talking about the special upgrade tickets, which can be purchased in the PlayStation Store, among other places, and allow impatient players to get immediate access to the exclusive weapon upgrades – regardless of the respective weapon tier.
“To all gun enthusiasts, knife collectors and gun lovers of all kinds: Here you have a ticket for the gun show! More specifically, a ticket that you can exchange in the merchant’s shop,” the official description of the microtransactions continues.
Special upgrade tickets available in different versions
A single special upgrade ticket beats im PlayStation Store with 2.99 euros to book. There are also bundles consisting of three (6.99 euros) or five tickets (9.99 euros). It should come as no surprise that the support for microtransactions drew a lot of criticism on social media and international gaming forums.
Above all, the investors and the management of Capcom are the focus of criticism, which Jim Sterling, the author responsible for the surprise hit “Vampire Survivors”, also joined. Sterling commented, “Scary to see people lining up to defend this crap. Microtransactions are inherently shoddy. Forcing them on players after launch is even worse. There are no good microtransactions.”
The majority of players call for ignoring or boycotting the microtransactions not only in the remake of “Resident Evil 4”. Instead, no use of in-game purchases should be made in any Triple-A game to prevent this type of monetization from becoming the norm.
More updates on Resident Evil 4 Remake:
Resident Evil 4 Remake is available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The new edition has now sold more than worldwide four million times.
Capcom just HAD to go and worsen a perfect experience…
Thankfully, they’re easily ignored, but like, I just imagine some shareholder with his veins popping out at the meeting table going. „WHERE IS THE MONETIZATION IN THJS SINGLEPLAYER GAME!?!?!“

Creepy seeing people lining up to defend this shit. Microtransactions are inherently scummy. Springing them on players post-launch is moreso.
There are no good microtransactions. https://t.co/kCWXeJ98NP
