As announced yesterday April 12 with a post on social media, Square Enix showed a full-bodied deepening of Final Fantasy 16 at the State of Play of PlayStation held today April 13th. During the event, Yoshida showed some of the peculiar characteristics of what, for many, it is among the main candidates for GOTY 2023as well as the only one for Famitsu that can hold a candle to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Final Fantasy 16 will be released on PC and, exclusively console, PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023. However, this exclusive will be temporary, and will expire on December 31st of this year. The game will also be dubbed into Italian, a first for the seriesso much to be celebrata da Naoki Yoshida, Hiroshi Takai and Ryota Suzuki. Obviously, Final Fantasy 16 will have a Deluxe and a Collector’s Edition.
As reiterated several times since its presentation, the new chapter of the historic Square Enix saga will be characterized by particularly mature tones, typical of dark fantasy. The team took inspiration from exponents of the genre such as Game of Thrones and The Witcher. The seriousness of the tones was examined by the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board), which, following the check, cataloged Square Enix’s JRPG as Mature 17+, equivalent to our PEGI 18. The game will feature rather explicit scenes and even some sexual references.
