This Saturday (15), the voice actor Gileno Santoro died at the age of 74. The dubbing professional is mainly famous for lending his voice to Master Roshi, from Dragon Ball, and Jackie Chan’s Uncle, in The Adventures of Jackie Chan.
The information was initially reported by Mauro Eduardo, director of dubbing at Centauro studio, through the Twitter profile Kami Sama Explorer, who shared a tribute to the artist in which, in a frame, it is possible to visualize most of his characters. So far, the cause of the voice actor’s death is unknown.

In addition to Dragon Ball and The Adventures of Jackie Chan, Santoro has also been cast in other animated series. Among them, it is possible to mention Fullmetal Alchemist, Futurama, Gravity Falls, Naruto Shippuden, Pokémon, Hunter x Hunter, Yu-Gi-Oh, Cowboy Bebop and many others.
His credits also include participation in television programs, such as the classic Você Decide, and dubbing in live-action films. Her voice acting career started in 1996, when she was 48 years old.
Gileno Santoro was moved to be recognized by a fan during a medical consultation
In 2018, during an interview with the voice actor Wendel Bezerra’s channel, Santoro spoke about some remarkable episodes of recognition for his work.
“I went to a doctor’s appointment […] and talking I said ‘I work with dubbing’, then [o médico] stopped and said ‘what do you do dubbing?’ then I said ‘Master Roshi’. He looked at me and started crying”, he commented, getting emotional throughout the interview for remembering that moment.
“For me that’s exciting, because he got up and said ‘can I hug you?’ He hugged me and cried. He said ‘you marked my childhood, your voice marked my childhood, my life’. I was also very moved”, he concluded at the time, adding that he had already been recognized by a supermarket cashier.

“If I’m in dubbing, I owe a lot to the theater”, argued the dubbing actor in the same interview, explaining that, in 2018, he was completing 50 years of career and 22 years of dubbing. It is worth noting that Wendel Bezerra and Gileno Santoro worked together on Dragon Ball and also on As Aventuras de Jack Chan.
