Object 156 O in World of Tanks is a Soviet premium tier 8 flamethrower self-propelled gun, available only in the RU region, fully developed Ready Games. In the EU in World of Tanks (Wargaming), flamethrower tanks are not going to be introduced yet. The new type of vehicle formally belongs to the artillery class, but the gameplay can be played like a regular tank, but only in close combat.
The mechanics of the flamethrower is implemented in such a way that the “shells” (jet) fly in a canopy, and the type of shells is called “flamethrower mixture“. Dealing damage works according to the old HE mechanics. The damage is small, but due to the fact that it constantly keeps half the crew in the camp and incapacitates, the car is very annoying.
The information presented in the article is based on the first results of the SuperTest and may be changed in the future, but we will update all the material closer to the release. In the guide, we have collected all the available material on the new machine and will tell you a little about the main nuances of flamethrower machines.
Historical reference
In 1956, at the Leningrad VNII-100, a project was developed to create an experimental flamethrower machine based on the promising Uralvagonzavod chassis. However, due to the insufficient range of fire, the project was closed: more than 250 meters were needed to effectively destroy enemy equipment, but it turned out almost 2 times less. The project was curtailed, shifting the focus to more promising technology.
Gameplay Features
The vehicle is completely new, almost all mechanics were created from scratch, so first, in order to have a general idea about the tank, let’s talk a little about the gameplay and key features:
flamethrower vehicles in the game are classed as self-propelled guns, because it is too difficult to create a new type separately and this can break the balancer. on flamethrowing tanks, you can use an artillery sight. firing distance of a fiery stream – 150 meters. the flight speed of the fire mixture is low, so a more or less mobile and quick-witted enemy will have time to leave the affected area, so shooting from afar is an ineffective undertaking. In addition, an analogue of “sound intelligence” is triggered for each jet, warning of a shot. due to low armor penetration, damage to heavily armored tanks is insignificant, it does almost no damage. constantly stuns the enemy, the chip works like a stun for artillery, BUT only for one tank (the nearest one). That is, even if 3 enemy tanks become nearby, the damage will be done only on the very first one, which was hit by a fiery jet. if the damage by modules is not too toxic, then the crew members are critically strong. It turns out that, as it were, each “jet” is equated to one hit by a projectile from self-propelled guns (perhaps this will still be corrected in the future). you can shoot through the artillery sight.
If we simplify all the mechanics for the understanding of ordinary players who do not want to go into too much detail, then we have a tank with a machine gun for 3 cassettes of 10 shells, but the whole thing has an animation of a flamethrower jet and is added by an artillery sight.
TTX Ob. 156 O
About. 156 O is currently only available to supertesters and some bloggers, so the screenshots have been chosen to provide at least general information about the tank. The crew of the car consists of 3 people:
Commander (Radio Operator + Loader). Gunner (Loader). Driver mechanic.
Firepower
As such, there is no gun caliber here, but most of the characteristics coincide with conventional vehicles, let’s take a closer look at the main ones.
Main changes:
there is no choice between the types of shells, here it is the same – a flamethrower mixture. the parameter “Firing range” appeared. Here it is 150 meters. stun (disorientation) time – 15 seconds.
The tank has a drum at its disposal. 3 cassettesin each 10 shots (in one click). One shot damage from 1 shot – 40 units. From one cassette – 400 units. The total damage from the drum is 1200 units. Armor penetration 85, cooldown 4 seconds between shots, and the entire drum is charged for 19.58 sec.
Spread per 100 meters 3,83and the information time 2.88 sec. Elevation angles -5…+20 °, so it’s practically impossible for the tank to shoot down purposefully, so try to avoid situations where the enemy is much lower. But the horizontal aiming angles are very convenient in all situations. -30…+30 °but keeping fast opponents (for example, charioteers) in focus will not work.
Vitality
The margin of safety is only 1200 units, so the technique does not forgive mistakes. It is distinguished by strong frontal armor, the reduction there is about 400-500 mm, the NLD is also well protected.
However, the sides break through easily, so “diamond” is not an option here.
In some situations, a low silhouette helps out (it’s harder to hit), but this is also a significant minus – in the clinch, almost any opponent will be higher, which will allow him to break through the roof, which is poorly protected. By the way, artillery (ordinary) also throws a lot of pain.
Mobility and intelligence
The mass of the machine is small 32.35 tons, therefore, due to the high power density 21.64 hp/t About. 156 O quickly picks up maximum speed 60/20 km/h. Chassis slew rate 46.94 grad/s, so that the tank spins briskly in place. Due to the low silhouette, it has a good camouflage ratio of 21.66%. The viewing radius is depressingly small – 350 meters.
Advantages and disadvantages
Summing up the tactical and technical characteristics of the Object 156 O, we can highlight the strengths and weaknesses of the machine.
Advantages:
new interesting mechanics; comfortable UGN; high crew damage; strong frontal armor; good dynamics; good maneuverability; low silhouette.
Flaws:
the gameplay is not for everyone; the tank needs the cover and help of the allies; low damage to armored vehicles; armor penetration is low and there are no other options for “shells”; low speed of the fire mixture; the attack range is only 150 meters, so you need to play on the first line; weak roof armor; loses in the clinch to most opponents; low viewing radius.
Neutral worth highlighting toxicity technology. On the one hand, the tank is very annoying and can significantly spoil the impression of the game if it focuses one of them due to the long “stun” and the constant incapacitation of tankers. On the other hand, someone just likes to annoy the opponent in this way.
How to play Object 156 O
The Object 156 is a distinct support tank, but it is much more difficult to deal a lot of damage on it than on a regular SPG. It is important to constantly be on the front line and the closer to the enemy, the better, the higher the chance to hook him with a fiery stream and thereby give the allies a chance to deal with him.
Good dynamics and strong frontal armor make it possible to take enemy medium and light tanks to ram, but it’s better not to climb on the bands and assault tank destroyers, there the benefit from ramming will be minimal (or there will be none at all). In addition, Ob. 156 About a small margin of safety, this is also worth constantly keeping in mind when you are going to go for an HP exchange.
Unlike a conventional SPG, here you need to move to keep the enemy in the area of the fire jet. At the same time, it is very difficult to keep track of mobile tanks, so ST / TT / PT are more priority.
Object 156 O feels good when playing from the terrain: it is small, it is difficult to aim it, but due to the EHV it can be sprayed from above (the fire mixture flies in a canopy). The main thing in such situations is not to forget about the “big brother” – self-propelled guns, which can significantly throw over the roof. In general, the tank feels good on hilly or city maps, still better than on open maps – this is just one of the main gameplay differences with conventional artillery.
Conclusion
Object 156 O is definitely not an imba, but can be a very annoying opponent. This is a support that will be valuable when playing as a platoon, when you can coordinate actions and disable the equipment that is under the focus of the flamethrower self-propelled guns as a team. Unlike classical artillery, such battles will be more dynamic and interesting, and the probability of a miss will be much lower.
In general, the car turned out to be narrowly focused and specific, definitely not for the wide mass of players. Due to the stun, the tank gets a large amount of experience, but the farm coefficient is still in question (it is likely that these parameters will still be adjusted). We will not run further, nevertheless, the technique has just entered the SuperTest stage and the characteristics can still change many times.
