In 4K resolution, upscaling or frame generation will be needed for all cards.
The editors of Tom’s Hardware conducted an ultimate test of the Overdrive graphics mode in Cyberpunk 2077. This mode replaces ray tracing with path tracing: reflections, shadows and lighting effects become even more realistic, but performance suffers greatly.
The publication tested the Overdrive mode on 18 graphics cards from AMD, Intel and Nvidia. It turned out that without the use of upscaling, even the fastest video cards produce an acceptable frame rate only at 1080p resolution.
As the resolution increases, you will either need to enable upscaling or activate frame generation from DLSS 3. For example, the top-end Radeon RX 7900 XTX at 4K resolution produces less than 4 frames per second.
With upscale, the situation changes. At 1080p, you can get about 30 fps on a card like the Radeon RX 6800 XT or GeForce RTX 3050. At 4K, you can see about 30 fps on a card like the GeForce RTX 3090 or RTX 4070.
Based on the results of testing, the journalists came to the conclusion that the path tracing in Cyberpunk 2077 is primarily optimized specifically for Nvidia video cards. This was expected: company employees helped CD Projekt with the implementation of path tracing.
It makes sense for owners of most AMD video cards (and all Intel video cards) to turn on Overdrive just out of curiosity – to look at some very beautiful frames per second.
