With its Stealth Pro, Turtle Beach is launching a new wireless premium gaming headset that not only leaves the competition far behind, but also leaves nothing to be desired. We were able to test the device extensively before the official start of sales and tell you why you should definitely put the latest work from the US manufacturer on your list if you are currently thinking about a new headset.
Simple design with many built-in functions
At first glance, however, the latest Turtle Beach product looks almost nondescript. The classic black with some metallic elements creates a rather simple, reserved impression. This sets it apart pleasantly from some other current products that come with bright colors or built-in light elements and thus immediately attract attention. We definitely like the look of the Stealth Pro.
If you take the wireless headset in your hand, you will immediately notice that it is quite heavy. The device feels valuable with its good 420g and does not bother even after longer gaming sessions, which is mainly due to the comfortable leatherette-wrapped memory foam ear pads. These not only ensure a great sound experience, but also, together with the adjustable metal brackets, a comfortable fit.
That the product has a fairly decent weight, for example compared to the last one we tested GXT 498 FORTA by Trustis due to the numerous built-in elements and functions that make the Stealth Pro a real beast.
Incidentally, unlike many comparable gaming headsets, the latest Turtle Beach device comes without a DAC (digital-to-analog converter). Such a device is said to help increase sound quality by converting the digital signals to analog for the headphones. As a result, such a bulky device does not take up unnecessary space on the desk or next to the console. But let’s finally take care of the sound.
Rich bass and clear sound – with a bonus for multiplayer fans
What also sets the Stealth Pro apart from several competing products are the built-in 50 mm Nanoclear drivers. Many gaming headsets rely more on 40mm drivers. The size is actually a noticeable difference here, because it makes the sound experience even clearer and the sound even richer.
We tested the device primarily with multiplayer games such as Apex Legends, Call of Duty Warzone 2.0, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Destiny 2. We also tried it out in the two single-player hits “Horizon Forbidden West” and the “Resident Evil 4” remake, and in all cases we were immediately impressed by the really good spatial sound. Especially with the 3D audio on the PS5, the device delivers great results.
If you are not satisfied with the default settings, you can also make adjustments with just a few simple steps. An app for your smartphone or a corresponding program for the PC allows you to set various settings manually with a few controls. Do you want an even more powerful bass or even clearer highs? All this is no problem and can be done in a pleasantly uncomplicated way thanks to intuitive operation – really nice!
If you want to immerse yourself in virtual worlds as undisturbed as possible, you are also on the safe side with the Stealth Pro, because according to Turtle Beach the gaming headset offers no less than the most effective noise suppression that has been built into such a device to date. The integrated microphones reduce ambient noise by up to 25 dB. Here, too, you can fine-tune something via the app, if desired.
A real game changer, and in the truest sense of the word, is the Turtle Beach-exclusive Superhuman Hearing feature. The name might seem pretty pompous at first, but in fact this technology can give you an advantage on hotly contested multiplayer battlefields.
Superhuman Hearing amplifies key sounds such as door openings, weapon firing and reloading, and enemy footsteps. The Stealth Pro can really shine in multiplayer games and if you like to play competitively, the device can definitely make the decisive difference here.
So that you can always coordinate properly with your fellow players, a microphone is of course also included in the Turtle Beach device. Or, to be more precise, even several: You can either use the detachable TruSpeak boom microphone or the microphones integrated in the headphones. All support the so-called SMART technology, which noticeably reduces the ambient noise around you.
This ensured good results during our test, both with the detachable and the built-in microphones. In contrast to the sound, however, the microphone quality of the Stealth Pro falls a bit and is not on the same good level as some competing products. Of course, you can also make improvements here, but we were not completely satisfied with this during the test.
The best gaming headset for PS5?
In addition, the battery life is also convincing and is ideal for longer gaming sessions. One battery lasted a good 12 hours during our test before we had to connect it to the included charging station. A short charge of around 15 minutes is enough for around three hours. You can swap out the batteries themselves in just a few simple steps. The change is therefore quick and easy, which is particularly important in heated games in order not to be torn out of your own flow too much.
Before we come to our conclusion, a few words about the things that we have not yet mentioned about the Stealth Pro: Using Bluetooth 5.1 you can connect the gaming headset to pretty much any device of your choice, for example other game consoles, the PC or your smartphone. The 2.4 GHz wireless connection is said to provide a virtually error-free connection up to a distance of 15 meters, but there were minor dropouts during our test when we went into an adjacent room. In view of the otherwise offered quality, that’s a pity, but bearable.
Using a wheel and a mode button, both of which are built directly into the headphones, you can assign additional functions to these controls via the app or the corresponding PC program and thus adapt the headset even more to your wishes and needs – very good!
