In a post on Alien Day, 20th Century Films’ online event to share discoveries and news about the franchise, we got a behind-the-scenes look at the new Alien movie from director Federico Alvarez, who previously worked on The Evil Dead. and “Don’t Breathe” 2013. The photo shows for the first time one of the film’s sets, as well as a thick nod to the return of the infamous Facehugger creature, which lays its eggs inside its unsuspecting victims to create new xenomorphs.
Details about the film are being kept under wraps for now. According to a THR report from early March, the next Alien movie will focus on a young group of space colonists stranded on a remote station with an infected xenomorph. The film’s current cast includes Caylee Spaeny, David Jonsson, Spike Fern, Alain Wu and Archie Reno.
It should be noted that this film will not continue the story started by Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, both of which were directed by Ridley Scott, who also directed the original 1979 film starring Sigourney Weaver. While Alien: Covenant grossed over $240 million worldwide, that was clearly not enough to continue the planned third film. Thus, the storyline dedicated to the rogue android David (played by Michael Fassbender) will remain unfinished.
In addition to this film, another television project is in development by Noah Hawley, who created the anthology series “Fargo” for the FX channel. As the first television series in the Alien universe, this show will take place on the Earth of the future.
