Is a PS5 Pro in the works at Sony? Insider Tom Henderson can confirm this with “100 percent certainty”. He also has a possible release period ready.
Sony regularly expands the PlayStation portfolio with new hardware products. Last February, the PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset was released, coming soon normally commercially available will be.
Also became Project Leonardo announced. This is a highly customizable controller designed to allow gamers with disabilities and limitations to immerse themselves in the PlayStation universe.
New PS5 models planned?
The PS5 with a removable drive, which has been rumored about repeatedly in recent months, has not yet been announced. Supposedly, this model of Sony’s successful console will be released this year, with a possible release in September being discussed.
A PS5 with a modular disc drive might sound strange at first, but it would make things easier. So far, there are two different PS5 models on the market – one with a disc drive and one as a Digital Edition, where players rely on the PlayStation Store.
A PS5 with a detachable and attachable drive would not only standardize production. Players could also adjust their purchase later, depending on usage behavior, by buying the drive or making an existing copy money again.
While insider Tom Henderson’s sources can’t confirm that the PS5 with the detachable disc drive, which is said to be non-slim, will be unveiled at the next PlayStation Showcase, he’s hoping it will be by that time to present the new hardware.
What about the PS5 Pro?
In a recent report on Sony’s alleged hardware innovations, Henderson also addressed the PS5 Pro. He can confirm that this is “with 100 percent certainty” in development. However, he left a small back door and emphasized that the plans could be canceled at any time.
“We can’t give any further details at this point. But we do know that the first prototypes of the development kit will go to first-party developers in the next few months, and third-party developers will get them by the end of the year.” adds Henderson.

PS5 handheld and earbuds
Other rumors about PlayStation hardware have recently been devoted to very different products. New audio devices are said to be in the works for the PS5, like Insider Gaming reported last February.
These are believed to be Project Nomad (wireless earbuds) and Project Voyager (wireless headset), which are rumored to be launching late FY23 (March 2024).
And there’s a new one Handheld device with the product name Q-Lite. While no PlayStation Vita 2.0 or the like should be expected, the handheld is rumored to be viewed more as an accessory, allowing gamers to access the PlayStation 5 via remote play and launch adaptive streaming at up to 1080p and 60fps.
“The Q Lite looks the same as the DualSense controller, but has a big screen in the center, and one of its key features and perceived selling points will be the integration of haptic feedback – just like the DualSense,” says Henderson.
