What will the profession of interpretation have that inspires us so much! In the new movie Francois Ozon (The double lover) is the central axis in which the story moves, combining comedy, mystery and, of course, a fierce social criticism of the society of the mid-30s, focused on the male universe.
my crime uses a ruse to imagine a society in which the exoneration of a murder would mean not only an accolade in the face of public opinion but a true wave of popularity for a woman who hoists the flag of having been capable of killing for herself. safeguard his virtue.

We may not be facing a hilarious comedy, the kind that makes you laugh out loud, but it does have some successes worth noting: an underhanded sarcasm that questions genre conventions at all times, a staging exquisite and an interpretive cast that has not only embraced the challenge but has tasted it, it is clear!

You don’t have to try too hard to realize that the script by Francois Ozon and Phillippe Piazzo drinks from a play, in this case written by Georges Berr and Louis Verneuil.
Everything in it oozes theatricality: from the conception of the space to how the filming of the scenes is approached, which mostly take place in closed and highly staged places.
However, Ozon adds several integers to it by playing with the format to “imagine” all the possible ways in which the murder was committed (black and white, grain and an almost expressionist aesthetic) and above all by using a sensational cast to put stand the movie
We must first value the work of the two emerging stars of French cinema Nadia Tereskiewicz y Rebecca Marder (Winner and nominee for the Cesar Award for Best New Actress 2023 for her roles in La gran juventud y Une jeune film que va bien). Both blend phenomenally, they have presence, grit and complicity on screen.
But it is also that they are very well accompanied by some of the fetish faces of Ozon’s cinema, such as the great and hilarious Isabelle HuppertFabrice Luchini or Danny Boon who give the feeling that they had a great time participating in this production.
Verdict: Ozon is guilty
It may lack some biting and bad temper at certain times, something that would have given more packaging to the dialogues and without a doubt more hilarity to the situations, but with everything and with that, it is funny in its own way.
my crime is, after all, a atypical, peculiar and extravagant comedy. A rare bird that can be disconcerting due to its tone (it’s a bit hard to get a feel for it, because it’s close to vaudeville, although it later adds a subtext that leads it to fly in other directions) but which, in any case, ends up fulfilling when it comes to offering very worthy entertainment.
