According to the latest rumors from the Middle East, Final Fantasy XVI would have been banned in Saudi Arabia, to reveal it are some people involved in the localization and distribution of Square Enix video games in the Middle East. Here’s what’s happening.
It is not clear why Final Fantasy XVI has undergone (at least in theory, at the moment there are still no direct confirmations) this ban but there are those who hypothesize that the fault is to be found in the presence of nudity and in the representation of LGBTQIA+ themed content.
However, these are only hypotheses, at the time of writing the local bodies, Square Enix and PlayStation have not communicated anything regarding the Final Fantasy 16 banned in Saudi Arabia and other areas of the Middle East, so we just have to wait to find out more.
In 2020, The Last of Us Part 2 was banned in the Middle East for the presence of nudity and explicit sexual references. One of the most famous sequences of the game (we won’t go further to avoid spoilers) in particular attracted a lot of criticism, forcing local authorities to ban the sale of the game.
Will the same happen with Final Fantasy 16? It seems so, but we are still waiting for Square Enix or PlayStation to clarify the situation.
