Just before the weekend, the Strong National Museum of Play website announced this year’s World Video Game Hall of Fame inductees. Among the titles awarded was Naughty Dog’s cult title “The Last of Us”.
Since 2015, the Strong National Museum of Play has annually inducted selected titles into the World Video Game Hall of Fame that advanced or shaped the medium of video games in a special way.
As announced, four new games will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. These include “Wii Sports”, with which Nintendo succeeded in making the innovative controls of the Wii accessible to a large number of people in 2006 and opening up completely new groups of customers.
In addition, “Computer Space” (1971), the first commercial video game ever, and “Barbie Fashion Designer”, the first title that was deliberately aimed at a female audience, were honored.
The final point was “The Last of Us” from 2013, which was given a technically revamped remake for the PlayStation 5 last year and is still one of the most popular titles in the history of Naugty Dog.
That’s why I chose The Last of Us
Lindsey Kurano, Video Games Curator, commented the induction of “The Last of Us” into the World Video Game Hall of Fame as follows: “Even though The Last of Us debuted in 2013, it remains popular to this day for the quality of its gameplay and the strength of its story. The HBO adaptation has expanded the game’s reach and popularity in 2023.”
“The show was developed with the participation of Naughty Dog and has garnered critical and fan support as one of the best video game adaptations ever made,” Kurano said of The Last of Us.
Even if the official announcement of a third part is still a long time coming, fans of “The Last of Us” should not be bored for the foreseeable future. On the one hand, work is already underway on a second season of the HBO series “The Last of Us”, in which the makers say they will address a major criticism of the first season. We’ll tell you what that means here.
