Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud song has been accused of plagiarizing Martin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On song
The lawsuit against Ed Sheeran comes from the side of Ed Townsend, co-author of the song Let’s Get It On by Martin Gaye. Townsend’s party accused Thinking Out Loud, which became Sheeran’s hit song in 2014, of plagiarizing the chord pattern or the so-called “heart” of the song.
The trial ran for two weeks in a courtroom in Manhattan. When Sheeran testified, he sang Thinking Out Loud while playing his guitar before the jury. The Bad Habits singer also admitted that her hit song had been made independently with her friend Amy Wadge.
In addition, Sheeran and his lawyers have never disputed that the two songs have similar chords, but consider them to be the chords most often found in thousands of other songs.
The Lego House singer also admitted that he would retire from a career in the music world if he lost the trial.

The New York Times reported that Sheeran approached Kathryn Griffin Townsend, Ed Townsend’s daughter. The two of them chatted briefly before Townsend respected the jury’s decision.
