05/16/2023 at 09:40 a.m. by Claus Ludewig – The Chinese manufacturer Oppo is about to withdraw from Germany. All product information on the official website has been removed after there are already no new smartphones for sale in this country.
Since August 2022, the Chinese manufacturers Oppo and Oneplus have not been allowed to sell new smartphones in Germany. The background is a sales ban imposed by the district court in Munich 1 following a lawsuit by the Finnish network supplier Nokia. Oppo has now removed all products from its German website, fueling rumors that it could withdraw from Germany.
What will happen to Oppo smartphones that have already been sold?
At the end of 2022, Oppo, together with Oneplus, was able to achieve a market share of 10 percent in Germany. Both brands, like iQOO, Vivo and Realme, belong to the Chinese group BBK Electronics. According to Oppo, there should still be support for devices that have already been sold. There are four Android version upgrades and five years of security patches for “selected top models”. This includes, for example, the Oppo Find X5 Pro. For older Oppo smartphones, there are only security updates for three years, each from the time of release of the device.
It is unclear when the BBK brands will be allowed to officially offer new goods in the Federal Republic again. Although the new tablet is listed at Oneplus, it cannot be bought. There were already rumors in early 2023 that Oppo could withdraw from Germany. Smartphones from the BBK brands can still be purchased in other European countries. In addition to Germany, the network supplier Nokia is also suing Oppo in France, Finland, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Spain. So far, the Chinese group has not been able to come to an agreement with the Finnish company.
