As the developers of Remedy Entertainment revealed, users do not necessarily have to have played the first part of the series to understand the upcoming Alan Wake 2. Knowledge of “Control” released in 2021 or its DLC is also not necessary.
The Finnish studio Remedy Entertainment not only releases new games with ever new stories. It also finds ways to connect the different game worlds together. However, it is not necessary to know the different titles of the studio to understand the upcoming “Alan Wake 2”.
It’s not even absolutely necessary to know the first part of the series, according to the developers in a recently published FAQ. But fans should still get their money’s worth.
Fans should be able to find connections again
“Alan Wake 2 is a sequel, but it’s designed as a standalone experience,” the studio writes in the FAQ on the game’s official website. “Newcomers can enjoy the thrill of the previous game without any previous knowledge. There’s tons of lore and connections to be discovered for the returning fans.”
As the developers reveal in the FAQ, users do not have to use the 2021 version either „Control“ or played its second expansion, AWE, to better understand Alan Wake 2. While this is recommended for fans interested in the universe of Alan Wake, it is completely optional. With the release of AWE, Remedy had confirmed that Alan Wake and Control are set in the same universe.
