To avoid encountering a brown bear on a hike, WWF recommends talking or singing loudly in areas with bear populations, but avoid dense brush.
Basically, brown bears are shy animals. Thanks to their excellent sense of hearing and smell, they usually avoid people in good time. According to “rnd”, most attacks on humans are carried out by female bears with cubs. They tend to behave aggressively out of fear of a possible threat to their offspring.
If you do come across a bear, don’t run away, but stand still. Anything that the bear might perceive as a threat, such as throwing stones or threatening gestures, should be avoided. When the bear rears up, it’s not aggressive behavior, it’s trying to get a better view.
Should the bear attack, WWF recommends lying on the ground and clasping your hands behind your neck to let the bear know it is not in danger.
