This week, Remedy Entertainment unveiled the first full trailer for the upcoming Alan Wake 2, as well as announcing the game’s release date of October 17th. But the horror film will be released only in the digital version. A boxed edition is not planned by the studio at the moment.
In a FAQ on the official website, the studio stated that there are several reasons for a digital release. One of them is that a large volume of players have switched to consoles without a disc drive. “You can buy a Sony PlayStation 5 without a drive, just like Microsoft’s Xbox Series S. Modern games are often released only in digital format,” explained Remedy Entertainment. The second reason is to keep the price tag at $59.99/€59.99 for the console versions and $49.99/E49.99 for the PC version.
In addition, the studio does not want to release Alan Wake 2 on disc and require buyers to download the game from the Web: “We don’t think it will leave a good impression.” The last point is related to the fact that in boxed editions, most often either a disk with a launcher or a download code is supplied, which disappoints the players.
Alan Wake 2 will be released on PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.
