Blizzard has unveiled a new event at to honor the first 1000 playerswho have favourited the level 100 cap of Diablo 4 to reach. “Do you think you can outwit death?” the developer teased. “Reach level 100 in hardcore mode and tweet #Diablo4Hardcore with a proof to have your username immortalized on a statue of Lilith. Offer limited to the first 1000. Starts June 1st.” Actually a nice gesture to honor the 1000 best hardcore gamers – but the community has doubts.
Unfair advantage over new players
Despite the nice thought, the challenge is not well received by all players. Some on the Diablo 4 (buy now )Subreddit have objected to the “unfair advantage” that those with early access to the game – like testers and content creators – will have since they’ve already become familiar with the game’s systems and combat. Blizzard GM Rod Fergusson countered this by reminding the community that starting Friday, everyone with early access will lose their characters and progression. But some claim that doesn’t go far enough, and are calling for anyone who played the game early on to be banned from entering the competition.
One player and content creator commented, ‘Can we talk about the people who have already played the game and are participating in the race event you announced? This gives an extremely unfair advantage. A player who already knows everything about bosses, acts, and equipping and leveling will have an advantage over a player who has never done it. Just like someone who’s been preparing for a marathon for months would win a race against someone who’s only just heard about it.”

For those unfamiliar with Diablo, you are not allowed to die in hardcore mode, as your character disappears with death. So reaching level 100 is quite an achievement indeed – one where players who are already familiar with the game could actually have an advantage.
so far has Blizzard failed to formally respond to the complaints or revise the eligibility requirements for the hardcore race event.
