In itself, the decision to open access to electric vehicles of other brands to the network of Tesla branded charging stations was made last year, but with the advent of Ford Motor, which occupies the second place in the electric vehicle market in the United States, it has good prospects for practical implementation. Starting in 2025, Ford electric vehicles will be factory-equipped with a NACS connector that is compatible with Tesla charging stations.

Until then, Ford electric vehicles, like other brands, will have to rely on adapters to use Tesla Supercharger branded charging stations, which both companies are willing to supply customers with for an extra charge. How much such an adapter will cost is not specified, but Elon Musk assured that the price would not be “prohibitive”. Previously, Tesla also made it possible for third-party automakers to use the NACS-type charging connector, hoping to make it an industry standard at least in North America. It seems that Ford Motor, which is Tesla’s strongest competitor in the US market, will be the first to use this right.
As representatives of Ford Motor explained, electric vehicles of the brand to access the network of branded charging stations will need to update on-board software and pay for an adapter. Its availability will allow owners of Ford electric vehicles in the US and Canada to access more than 12,000 Tesla-branded charging stations, not to mention more than 10,000 BlueOval charging stations. Formally, Ford electric vehicle owners will have access to the Tesla Supercharger network starting next year. Already in 2025, electric vehicles on the new platform will begin to roll off the Ford assembly line, initially equipped with a compatible NACS charging connector, which Tesla cars are also equipped with. Now Ford electric vehicles are equipped with a CCS connector.
