With the update 1.29 got Gran Turismo 7 Full PSVR2 support: Every race (also online) can be played in virtual reality from the cockpit perspective. The first thing that impresses is the attention to detail in the cockpit and the all-round view. So you always have an eye on your opponents on the track. It’s a good thing that the rear-view mirrors work, too, because there isn’t a follower’s view or other perspectives. The big advantage of VR: Thanks to the 3D depth effect, you can assess curves in a more differentiated way and see the further course of the route better. However, some details, such as distance signs, are only recognizable late, thanks to foveated rendering, what is happening in the viewing direction remains sharp enough, only the edge areas clearly fall in resolution. However, the HUD is limited: the number of laps, time, quick tuning or weather conditions can be viewed as an overlay, but not the route map or the distances to the opponents. It is still steered with a controller or steering wheel, Sense controllers are not supported.
It’s nice that the action can be switched from VR to the TV screen at any time. Split-screen duels, menu screens and pit stops are not VR-capable. These run in the usual cinema mode. Race replays, on the other hand, can optionally be enjoyed with an all-round view at specified locations. As a bonus, there is a showroom where you can examine the more than 450 cars up close and get into the cockpit.
