Shakhtar President Rinat Akhmetov congratulated the team, the coaching staff and the club’s staff on the league title, but made it clear that no one would arrange big holidays during the war.
“The 14th league title is probably one of the most difficult and valuable in the history of our club. Shakhtar won it under extremely difficult conditions, in wartime, when our country is resisting Russian aggression. Therefore, first of all, I want to thank the defenders and defenders of Ukraine. To those who sacrifice themselves for the sake of freedom and independence of Ukraine, for us and our future. Thanks to whom the championship took place, thanks to whom we can play football, watch football, thanks to whom we can live. We dedicate today’s championship title to them, our defenders – to those who are fighting for our country right now, and to those who gave their lives for it.
This championship title is the first for Igor Jovicevich and his coaching staff. My congratulations to them and many thanks. They did an excellent job, managed to unite the players around a common goal, motivating and supporting them throughout the difficult path to the championship. This title is the first for many young Shakhtar players. And I congratulate them on this achievement and thank them for the strong character that they showed in every match of the season, for their great will to win, for their bright game.
Congratulations to the administrative and medical staff of the team, management and all staff of the club. Each of you has made extraordinary efforts so that today we can say with joy and pride: Shakhtar are the champions!”. I also want to thank our rivals who fought and created a worthy competition for us, who in difficult times found the opportunity to play and thus support the fans and all Ukrainians, giving positive emotions to millions of people.
It was an interesting championship. Difficult, exhausting, but interesting. And I am glad that Shakhtar won in a tense struggle that lasted until the last rounds. We will remember and appreciate this victory, but we will not celebrate it. Because the joy of football victories will return to us when we win our main victory – the victory of Ukraine over the enemy, when we liberate all our cities and return peace to our land.
We believe in the victory of Ukraine and together we bring it closer,” Akhmetov said.
