Flower of Salt
With a grade of 1.7, the Flor de Sal d’ Es Trenc Natural from Mallorca took first place. It is formed in sea bays where wind and sun concentrate and dry out the salt water. The fine salt blossoms are then skimmed off by hand. For the test winner you pay around 8 euros at Amazon.
Second place proves that it is also significantly cheaper. With a grade of 1.8, the Kania Fleur de Sel from the discounter Lidl lands here. With a retail price of around 2 euros, it is significantly cheaper than first place, but it also finishes “very well” in categories such as sensors and the experts also have nothing to complain about in terms of chemical quality.
Iodized salt (sometimes also with fluoride and folic acid)
Here a well-known classic lands at the top. The Bad Reichenhaller AlpenJod-Salz + fluoride + folic acid scores “good” in the test and convinces in all categories. Just like the Bad Reichenhaller, the Carat iodized salt with fluoride fine-grain from Netto scored a grade of 1.8. This means that discounters and Maken salt share first place here.
Reduced Sodium Salt
In some people, too much sodium leads to high blood pressure. There are therefore also salts that contain significantly less of it than conventional salt. It is replaced in this salt by potassium and partly by magnesium. The Disal lightly iodized salt (to Amazon) comes out on top in this category. However, the sodium-reduced salt is not as flawless as the other winners. The experts rate the taste as somewhat bitter, the smell as “very slightly medicinal” and the chemical quality is only “sufficient”. The Pansalz iodised table salt with potassium and magnesium is a bit worse in terms of user-friendliness of the packaging and declaration, but the chemical quality is right here and the coverage of the need for iodine, fluoride and folic acid is “good” with second place.
Salt without added iodine
In the case of the salts without added iodine, the majority only scored “satisfactory”. The winner here again comes from Bad Reichenhaller. The salt blossoms score “good” (grade 2.0) and even taste “very good”. Since the special salt is more suitable as a topping and not for the daily salt requirement, the extent to which the requirement for iodine, fluoride and folic acid is covered was not examined here. You pay around 5 euros for the 100-gram jar (to the shop).
