The headset looks about the way everyone expected.
On the evening of June 5, Apple held an introductory presentation of the WWDC conference. The company showed updates to a large part of its products, from laptops and smartwatches to operating systems and augmented reality.
Vision Pro
The same augmented reality headset that insiders have been talking about for many years. Apple calls the Vision Pro the first wearable computer that runs on battery power.
The headset uses micro-OLED screens with a resolution of 23 million pixels – the picture quality is higher than that of 4K displays. M2 and R1 processors are responsible for data processing, the headset runs on its own visionOS operating system.
Vision Pro can work both in AR mode (the image from the external camera will be visible in the background) and in VR mode. The user’s hands act as a controller, the device recognizes even small gestures.
There is support for Bluetooth accessories, you can connect a Mac to the headset and work with the data on it. There is also built-in sound.
The headset also received a built-in 3D camera, LED-backlight and infrared cameras that track the position of the user’s eyes. The glasses’ sensors are able to generate the user’s avatar.
Headset applications can be created using the Unity engine: it supports all the necessary features. Apps for iPhone and iPad can also run on Vision Pro. The glasses will have their own version of the App Store.
To authorize users, opticID will be used – the glasses will identify the owner by a retinal scan. The headset will sell for $3,499, with sales starting in 2024.
MacBook Air
The compact laptop has received a 15-inch version, equipped with an M2 chip, a little over 11 millimeters thick and will cost $1299 (sales start next week).
Apple calls the new Air the thinnest 15-inch laptop in the world. It can run up to 18 hours on battery and supports up to 24 gigabytes of memory. Storage – up to 2 terabytes.
At the same time, the 13-inch Air with the M1 chip dropped to $999, while the version with the M2 chip costs $1,099.
M2 Ultra
The fastest chip based on Apple’s proprietary architecture. In fact, these are two M2 Max chips connected together: 24 CPU cores, up to 76 GPU cores, and a significant acceleration of work with artificial intelligence.
Mac Studio
Apple’s smallest desktop computer has been updated. The new version of Mac Studio can be equipped with M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips and is capable of carrying up to 192 gigabytes of memory. The updated Mac Studio starts at $1999 and goes on sale June 13th.
Mac Pro
The professional workstation has also been updated. Now Mac Pro is equipped with the M2 Ultra chip, externally the device has not changed: it still resembles a cheese grater. The minimum price of the new version of Mac Pro is $6999.
macOS
The 14th version of the macOS operating system is called Sonoma. The operating system will support iOS-style widgets and will receive an SDK that simplifies game development. With his help, Death Stranding was transferred to macOS. The release of the new macOS will take place at the end of 2023.
iOS
The operating system for smartphones will receive version 17 in the fall of 2023. The new iOS brings improved AI-powered auto-correction, and a Journal app will appear with entries automatically generated by AI based on the content of the owner.
You can now access Siri without “Hey”, plus there will be a Namedrop function that allows you to transfer some data from one phone to another by bringing the devices closer to each other.
iPadOS
In the fall of 2023, Apple will release iPadOS 17. The new operating system can better suggest words, learn how to interact with applications through widgets from the home screen or lock screen, receive a built-in Health app and a number of minor improvements.
WatchOS
The 10th version of the operating system of smart watches will support sensors that work via Bluetooth. The activity system now supports bicycles, the new watchOS is coming out, you guessed it, in the fall of 2023.
