06/05/2023 at 12:15 p.m. by Oliver Jäger – The German hardware youtuber Robert “der8auer” Hartung had the option to examine the circuit board of the Geforce RTX 4090 ROG Matrix from Asus. He found that the water-cooled ROG Matrix has similarities to the ROG Strix, but significantly less coil whine.
In the third quarter of this year, Asus wants to release the Geforce RTX 4090 ROG Matrix, which relies on 360 mm AiO water cooling. With the ROG Matrix, Asus says it wants to achieve the “biggest turbo clock of any RTX 4090 card on the planet”. In any case, it is said to have the highest performance of any Asus card released to date.
This is what the PCB of the Asus RTX 4090 ROG Matrix looks like
The manufacturer has now made some units of its ROG Matrix cards available to the OC community. The hardware youtuber and overclocking enthusiast, Robert “der8auer” Hartung, was also allowed to deal with the graphics card. In a new video, he gives his viewers a look at the ROG Matrix circuit board and explains what the card’s quirks are and where it resembles Asu’s current flagship, the ROG Strix.

Interestingly, ROG Strix stickers can be found on some cards, and the 24-phase VRAM design is very similar, if not identical. Manufacturer Asus is said to have stated that the RTX 4090 ROG Matrix should have new temperature sensors around the GPU and power stages. With their help, the Asus firmware should be able to localize hot spots that could be due to unevenly attached thermal pads. Asus is also changing the manufacturer for the Power Stages and is using components from MPS (Monolithic Power Systems) instead of those from Onsemi. Both are rated for the same current of 70 amps.

In his video, Der8auer has good news for all those who have problems with coil whine, because this has been significantly reduced thanks to new coils. Asus has now also optimized the coils of the ROG Strix, so that improvements are also praised for this model. In the end, Asus wants to get back to the top of the high-end GPUs with its new liquid-cooled flagship. Meanwhile, the competition for Galax HOF, EVGA Kingpin and MSI Lightning has not been published or will no longer be so in the case of EVGA.
