Article of November 7, 2022:
Since their introduction in the mid-2010s, if there is one thing that characterizes voice assistants of all brands, it is their ability to trigger anytime and anyhow.
According to journalist Mark Gurman for Bloomberg, the situation could soon get worse at Apple.
Siri instead of “Hey Siri”
Each voice assistant has its way of being triggered by the voice: Ok Google or Hey Siri are the best known. According to the journalist, Apple would consider simplifying all of this with a simple keyword “Siri”, followed by a command.
A very complex initiative to implement since the system must of course be able to understand the word Siri in all the supported languages with the differences in voice and accents that people may have. It also needs the system to avoid triggering as soon as someone in the room mentions Siri in a chat, or else users’ lives could become a hassle.
Apple would also work on better integration of Siri with developer applications on the App Store. Today, the assistant is not at the level in terms of relevance and ecosystem compared to its competitors at Amazon and Google.
It remains to be seen when and how these changes could be unveiled by Apple. We imagine that this new version of Siri could be presented at the same time as a new version of the HomePod equipped with a screen.
