In the Pokémon TCG there are cards that have “enjoyed” very few different versions: this is the case of Kadabra, which will reappear in the Pokémon Card 151 set, arriving in June (and only in Japan), after an absence of 21 years . Others, however, are almost one fixed presence in each expansion of the TCG. Pikachu, without a doubt, is one of the latter.
The Official Pokémon mascot, in fact, is present in many different cards, some of which have marked the history of the Pokémon TCG. In all likelihood, despite the recent “rebirth” in terms of popularity of Pokémon such as Eevee and – above all – Charizard, no little monster comes close to the number of reprints of Pikachu in the history of the Pokémon cardgame.
According to an article by TCGPlayer, there are more than 100 different versions of Pikachu, starting with those of the base set and going up to the most recent ones, including the EX, V and VMAX forms of the little monster. But be careful: this list does not include hard and pure reprints, but only the variants of the card with different illustrations, attacks and statistics.
What makes a more precise calculation than that of TCGPlayer’s colleagues impossible is the fact that Pikachu is the protagonist of many promo cards, many of which have never left Japan and are difficult to keep track of because they are linked to small-scale initiatives. It is no coincidence that, contrary to what many think, a variant of Pikachu is the most expensive Pokémon card in the world, even outclassing the infamous Charizard from the basic set of Pokémon.
In short, if you want one complete list of Pikachu cards, you were unlucky: you won’t find it here on Everyeye or elsewhere on the net. Just know that, if you really want to embark on the collection of all the cards depicting the mascot of The Pokémon Company’s JRPG, you must be ready to reserve at least an entire binder (and a good part of your assets) for her.
At the bottom of this news, however, you will find one gallery of Pikachu’s most iconic cards: ranging from the “chubby” version of the first Pokémon set to the promos with the little monster flying or surfing, passing through a special “birthday” version of the electric mouse and some of its V and VMAX variants!
