Second racket of the world Arina Sobolenko from Belarus refused to hold an open press conference after defeating Sloane Stevens (7:6, 6:4) in the 1/8 finals of the French Open in 2023.
Arina gave a comment to the official representative of the WTA, in which she praised the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina:
“It was a good clay court match. If you can get through a match like this, then you can get through anything. Tough, very tough match.
A lot of balls came back, it was difficult to win rallies. I always had to look for the perfect shot to complete the play, it was not easy.
Svitolina plays very good tennis here in Paris, moves well. This is another player who will run a lot and return balls. I just have to be patient and wait for the perfect shot to complete the plays.”
In the quarterfinals of Roland Garros Svitolina will play against Sobolenko.
Previously, Arina had already refused to openly communicate with the media, arguing that she was worried about her psychological health.
